The current trend for healthy and nutritional diet has found the best representative in the muesli. In Europe alone consumed annually 40-50 thousand tons, while its consumption expands gradually in the rest of the planet.
The muesli fashion started by hippies and became synonymous with vegetarianism in the 1970s, but the real "fad" for cereals, combined with dried fruits and nuts, took off in the late 1990s and spread rapidly.

A large number of health food fanatics, prepares muesli by hand, in order to keep all the nutrients and vitamins intact and contain no preservatives, which necessarily contained in packaged form. A further reason to make muesli by hand is personalized selection of ingredients.

The muesli is a discovery of the early last century, namely of the swiss doctor Maximilian Bircher-Benner. He argued that the muesli with apples has the same nutritional value as breast milk and that heals slowly but surely many diseases of the digestive system.
Today muesli at the top of a healthy diet because they contain fiber and important nutrients, fruits, which help the smooth functioning of the body, and omega-3, which are found in nuts and contributions that include the development of the nervous system . Ingredients (~9 pieces)

  • 100g (3.5 oz) muesli
  • 160g (5.6 oz) flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 60g (2.1 oz) butter, softened
  • 160g (5.6 oz) sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 lemon, zest
  • 130g (4.6 oz) milk
  • 2 apples
In large bowl collect all the ingredients of the cake, except apples and milk.
Mix gently and for very little, with a spatula, while pouring the milk. Finally add the apples cut into bite-size.
Pour the mixture into a square, buttered oven pan of dimensions 20×20 cm (7.9×7.9 in).


  • 50g (1.8 oz) muesli
  • 50g (1.8 oz) butter, melted
  • 50g (1.8 oz) sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
In the same bowl add all the ingredients of the coating and mix. Pour, with a small teaspoon, scattered on the surface of the mixture.
Bake in preheated oven at 180°C (356°F, Gas:4.2) for ~35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Allow to cool on a wire rack and sprinkle with icing, if you like.
