Gruyere Cheese Sticks
Delicious cheese sticks, easy appetizer, fluffy and crunchy at the same time, very pleasant enjoyable moments, with a cold beer or a light, dry white wine.
Soft pastry filled, with sweet paprika, salt to subsweet flavor of the cheese and garlic. Of course sprinkled with gruyere cheese, roasted with a pleasant smell.
This unique taste cheese, which is made here in Greece in many traditional and modern dairies.
This is a product of Crete PDO (Protected Designation of Origin means the name of a region).

Gruyere Cheese Sticks

Ingredients (12 pieces)

  • 1 sheet ready puff pastry
  • 100 gr (3.5 oz) gruyere
  • 50 gr (1.75 oz) butter
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp sweet paprika
  • 1 tsp coarse salt
  • a little freshly ground pepper
Melt the butter, grate the gruyere in and roll the pastry onto the bench work.
With a plastic roll up, to a direction, to thin slightly.
With a pastry brush to butter the sheet of puff pastry.
Joining together: garlic powder, paprika and salt. With our hand scatter them onto half of the pastry.
Sprinkle with freshly ground pepper and a generous amount of grated gruyere. Turning the other half of sheet to cover up the filling. Press the foil covered lightly with a rolling pin.
Cut from the short side of the sheet, strips width ~1 cm (0.4 in). Turn the 3-4 rides and place spaced onto greaseproof paper, which we touched on a rack oven.
Butter the sticks lightly and sprinkle with grated gruyere.
Bake in preheated oven at 180°C (356°F, Gas 4) for 15'-20' until the pastry to rise and the sticks browned.
Remove from oven and let cool on a rack.
