Croque Mozzarella
Two slices of bread for toast, slices of mozzarella, broad leaved basil, ham of your choice and all breaded in bread crumbs and straight to the pan.
Very tasty and easy snack for all times. Whether leisurely breakfast in the weekend or quick, light supper, or for a group of friends escorted by cold beer, which, especially in summer goes too!

Croque Mozzarella

Ingredients (4 servings)

  • 8 toast slices - French toast bread
  • 8 ham slices, thin
  • 250g fresh mozzarella
  • 10-12 basil leaves broadleaf
  • 100g milk
  • 1 egg
  • salt & pepper
  • 50g breadcrumbs
  • 5 tbsp vegetable oil for frying
Remove the crusts from the bread.
Drain the mozzarella well and pat dry with paper towels. Cut it into thin slices.
Divide the ham slices in half bread slices. On top place a few slices of mozzarella and on top 2-3 basil leaves.
Cover with another slice of ham and with the remaining 4 slices of toast.
Cut each toast diagonally into two triangles.
In an average size bowl put the milk, egg, salt and pepper.
Stir vigorously for a while to combine.
In a shallow dish put the breadcrumbs and bring all ingredients near the fire to frying.
Put the oil in a pan over medium heat, to burn.
Moving fast dip one to one the triangles in beaten egg mixture for very little.
And immediately after put them in breadcrumbs to coat from both sides and as much as possible at the side.
Fry until golden brown from both sides. Dry on paper towels and enjoy them warm with a super cold beer.
